External Violence: Is the company responsible for how clients treat staff?

Client interaction

Defining Workplace Violence

Law 21,643 incorporates External Violence, which is violence exerted by third parties outside the employment relationship (clients, suppliers, or service users).

Sanctionable behaviors:

Yelling or threats directed at workers during service interactions
Use of offensive language or slurs in the workplace environment
Vandalism or material damage to the work environment

Prevention obligation

The employer must characterize the relationship with these external third parties in their Prevention Protocol and establish specific protection measures for workers who are exposed to public contact.
